The national anti-corruption office USKOK has denied the statement by the defence attorney for the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, Vladimir Gredelj, that it had not allowed him access to documents and to take possession of the rest of the file.
"It's not true that the HDZ as a suspect and its defence attorney were not allowed access to the file and to copy documentation or DVDs," USKOK spokesman Vuk Djuricic told media on Wednesday.
Lawyer Tajana Borovac Sinko of Gredelj's law firm took possession of 38,202 copied pages of the file from USKOK on November 16, while Gredelj himself took over another 861 pages of the file and 79 DVDs on November 21, Djuricic said.
Djuricic said that USKOK had received a new request from Gredelj on Tuesday and that it would grant it. "Lawyer Gredelj has been given everything he has asked for, and it's not true that USKOK is denying him access to the file or violating the suspect's right to defence."
