The Global Competitiveness Report 2011-2012, released on Wednesday, shows that Switzerland tops the overall rankings and Croatia is 76th, one position up compared to the 2010-2011 report.
Singapore overtook Sweden for second position. Northern and Western European countries dominate the top 10 with Sweden (3rd), Finland (4th), Germany (6th), the Netherlands (7th), Denmark (8th) and the United Kingdom (10th). Japan remains the second-ranked Asian economy at 9th place, despite falling three places since last year.
Croatia moved up one position and is now ranked 76th, holding 4.08 points.
Last year's report covered 139 countries.
The United States is experiencing a decrease of its competitiveness for the third year in a row and is ranked 5th.
The findings of the new competitiveness report, issued by the World Economic Forum (WEF), were also published by Croatia's National Competitiveness Council (NKV).
Commenting on the report results, NKV president Ivica Mudrinic said that moving up by one position unfortunately did not indicate Croatia's progress in competitiveness, stressing it was proof of stagnation.
