A woman whose left upper arm was seriously injured by debris of military planes that crashed near Plaski, about 80 kilometres south of Zagreb, is undergoing surgery at the hospital in Ogulin.

Shortly before the operation, surgeon Igor Tripalo told reporters that the woman, Mara Klipa, was injured by a sharp object that she said fell after the crash.

The injury is serious, as her upper arm bone and nerves were smashed.

The two MIG-21 planes that crashed were piloted by Captain Igor Troselj and First Lieutenant Marijan Kudlik, said the Defence Ministry.

They are pilots of the Croatian Air Force's 91st base. Both were examined at Zagreb's Dubrava hospital, where it was established that they sustained light injuries.
