The rector of the University of Zagreb, Aleksa Bjelis, on Monday decided to suspend the dean of the Faculty of Economics, Darko Tipuric, over his reported violations of study rules and of legislation on scientific work and tertiary education, the university's public relations office reported on Monday.
The decision on Tipuric's suspension is to be approved by the universitysenate and the acting dean of the said faculty will be appointed by 19 January2011 at the latest.
Recently, the Faculty of Economics Council held an extraordinary session atwhich it gave Tipuric a vote of confidence. The Faculty Council's session washeld following Bjelis's statement that Tipuric would be relieved of duty if hefailed to tender his resignation after a commission set up by Bjelisestablished alleged irregularities in the work of the Faculty of EconomicsInternational Summer School.
The establishment of the summer school was a serious breach of the statuteand rules of the University, Bjelis said in his decision.
The summer school made it possible for students to take exams after regulardeadlines during the school year, provided that they paid HRK 2,000 per course. This practice raises a series of questions about respect for the university'scode of ethics.
