The Initiative for the Defence of Croatian Vukovar on Monday held a peace walk in Bogdanovci near the town of Vukovar as part of their activities against the putting up of bilingual signs in Vukovar, and announced such peace walks in other nearby villages this week, after they organised protest rallies in Vukovar last week.

During today's protest the wartime commander of Bogdanovci, Ivan Matkovic Lasta, called on villagers to support the Initiative for Defence of Croatian Vukovar so that no Cyrillic signs were put up on public institutions in Vukovar. He welcomed the announcement by President Ivo Josipovic that he would talk with activists of this initiative.

The leader of the Initiative, Tomislav Josic, accused the government of Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic of ignoring any communication with the protesters. Josic again called for declaring Vukovar a site of reverence.

The leaders of the initiative announced a large-scale rally in Vukovar for Saturday, 14 September.
