The Initiative for the Defence of Croatian Vukovar on Tuesday held a peace walk in the eastern town of Tovarnik against the putting up of bilingual signs in Vukovar.
Today's protest gathered about 100 demonstrators. They laid a wreath and said prayers in front of the monument erected in memory of 68 Tovarnik villagers killed during the occupation by the Serb rebels supported by the then Yugoslav People's Army.
Earlier in the day, members of the Initiative covered the busts of the first Croatian President Franjo Tudjman and local wartime commander Blago Zadro in Vukovar with black flannel with an explanation that they should not look at "shameful events" regarding the installation of Cyrillic signs in that eastern Croatian town.
The leaders of the initiative announced a large-scale rally in Vukovar for Saturday, 14 September.
