European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton said in Pristina on Wednesday that she expected that everything contained in the agreement on normalisation of relations between Serbia and Kosovo reached in Brussels would be implemented, news agencies reported.
I think that in Brussels both prime ministers (Kosovo's Hashim Thaci and Serbia's Ivica Dacic) clearly showed that they are committed to work on normalising relations during the summer, Ashton said after meeting with Prime Minister Thaci and hinted at another meeting between the two officials to take place in Brussels at the end of the month, Serbia's Beta and Tanjug agencies said. She conceded that things can become complicated but that she was satisfied that a strong will exists.
After meeting with Thaci and President Atifete Jahjaga, Ashton said that the EU had rewarded Serbia for its resoluteness by launching negotiations on the Agreement on Stabilisation and Association (SAA) with the EU.
She declined to comment on an amnesty law that international officials have urged to be passed as a precondition to implement the agreement.
Kosovo's parliament is scheduled to discuss the law on Thursday. The EU countries and the U.S. believe that a speedy adoption of the law on amnesty would be the decisive step towards the normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and the safe integration of all the people in Kosovo into its institutions.
