U.S. sprinter Carmelita Jeter, who won three medals at the Olympic Games in London, and U.S shot putter Reee Hoffa, who got the bronze at the London Olympics, will take part in the international athletics meet in the Croatian capital on 4 September, the organisers of this IAAF World Challenge in Zagreb reported on Tuesday.
Jeter was a member of the U.S team that was the Olympic champion in the women's 4×100 metres relay competition and she claimed silver in the 100 metres and bronze in the 200m.
Hoffa attended the Boris Hanzekovic memorial in Zagreb also in 2010 when he finished the second, and in 2011 when he won the shot put event at this international athletics meet.
It has been recently announced that U.S. sprinter Allyson Felix, the Olympic champion in the women's 200m who also has golds from the the women's 4×100 metres relay and 4×200 competitions at the Games, will arrive in Zagreb for the 4 September meet.
Some of the other stars at this IAAF World Challenge in Zagreb will be Churandy Martina, a sprinter from Curacao, currently representing the Netherlands, Slovenia's hammer thrower Primoz Kozmus, who was the Beijing Olympic champion and who took silver in London, Russian long jumper Yelena Sokolova with a silver medal from London, Ivorian sprinter Murielle Ahoure who specializes in the 100 and 200 metres.
Also, Polish shot putter and a double Olympic gold medalist Tomasz Majewski and U.S. track and field sprinter Ryan Bailey are expected to come.
Croatia's best athlete Sandra Perkovic, who won gold in the women's discus at the London Games, will be among those stars.
This year, the Hanzekovic memorial meet will have 16 events.
