Bosnia and Herzegovina's State Court has turned down an appeal filed by the defence team representing Croatian war veteran Tihomir Purda against its decision to extend the detention of their client for a maximum of 40 days, the court confirmed to media on Wednesday.
Purda remains in custody until the court decides on an application for his extradition to Serbia, which wants him on charges of war crimes allegedly committed in Vukovar in 1991.
Bosnian laws do not specify time limits within which a decision on an extradition request must be made. Once the decision-making process on an extradition request has begun, detention may be extended for up to six months.
Purda was arrested at the Orasje border crossing in northern Bosnia on January 5.
