Bosnia's chief state prosecutor Milorad Barasin was suspended temporarily on Friday in line with a decision by the disciplinary commission of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (VSTV) after disciplinary proceedings were launched against him.
Barasin's suspension will last until the completion of disciplinary proceedings, which were launched last week.
The decision on suspension may be appealed, but that does not delay its enforcement.
VSTV disciplinary prosecutor Arbin Murtezic said Barasin had been suspended due to suspicion that he had harmed the reputation of the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor with his conduct.
Proceedings against Barasin were launched after the local media showed footage of Barasin having private meetings with Slobodan Tesic, an arms dealer who is being linked with illegal exports of arms and military equipment from Bosnia to countries under a UN arms embargo.
Barasin's contacts with arms smugglers were allegedly registered also by the Bosnian intelligence agency OSA.
