Former Sisak police chief Djuro Brodarac and two other men suspected of war crimes against civilians in the area of Sisak in 1991 and 1992 will be brought before the Osijek County Court on Tuesday afternoon, court officials said.
Court spokesman Miroslav Rozac told reporters the police had requested remanding the three suspects in custody for an additional 24 hours so that the investigation could be completed to press charges.
Apart from 67-year-old Brodarac, a former head of the Sisak Police Department, the police also arrested 49-year-old Vlado Milankovic, a former commander of the Sisak police department's active and reserve units, and 53-year-old former Sisak police reservist Drago Bosnjak.
Brodarac and Milankovic are suspected on command responsibility, while Bosnjak is suspected of an individual crime.
The investigation into war crimes in the area of Sisak has been in the jurisdiction of the Osijek County Prosecutor's Office since September 2010. A decision to that effect was made by Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic, and some media have reported that the reason was alleged dissatisfaction with the work of the Sisak County Prosecutor's Office.
