Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Tuesday chaired the founding session of the commission for preparing an international tender for the HRK 2-billion tourism project called "Brijuni Rivijera".

After the session, held in the Istrian town of Vodnjan, Kosor said that participants in the meeting harmonised their stands on documents important for the project.

"The session was very constructive and we are exceptionally pleased," the premier said. The next session on this matter is convened for 14 days.

"We have agreed to hold a meeting in 14 days' time, so that we can do everything necessary for announcing an international tender for the Brijuni Rivijera project by 15 September," Kosor said. Kosor described this project important not only for Istria County but also for the entire Croatia. "This project is paving the way for creating 2,000 new jobs," she added.

Istria County Prefect Ivan Jakovcic, who attended the Vodnjan meeting, also expressed satisfaction saying that today's meeting was an operative step in the implementation of the entire project. "This will be a great message to international investors that Croatia is ready to welcome new investors," Jakovcic said.

Other members of the commission are a few government ministers and mayors of local towns.

On 28 July, the Croatian government gave its consent for a draft agreement on the implementation of the tourism development project "Brijuni Rivijera" in the locations Pineta, Hidrobaza and the island Sv. Katarina-Monumenti.

A day after, Kosor signed an agreement with Istria County Prefect Jakovcic, the mayors of Pula and Vodnjan Boris Miletic and Klaudio Vitasovic and the director of the company "Brijuni Rivijera", Ratomir Ivicic, to implement the "Brijuni Rivijera" development project at the locations Pineta, Hidrobaza and the island of Sv. Katarina-Monumenti at the first stage of the project.
