Croatia Airlines (CA) flight services were disrupted on Wednesday after a large number of cabin crew staff have taken sick leave, prompting the national carrier to cancel some of the flights and reschedule others, CA spokesman Goran Janusic said.
Janusic said that 39 flight attendants, or 20 per cent of the cabin crew staff, had called in sick in the last 36 hours, which he said was an unprecedented case in the company's history. He said that thorough checks would be carried out to identify the causes of the sick leave cases.
CA does not rule out a possibility that the sick leave requests are a response by the cabin crew union to the employer's conditions regarding the signing of a new collective agreement, which are adjusted to the company's restructuring programme and opposed by the union.
