The commander of the Croatian Armed Forces' ground troops, General Mladen Kruljac, was arrested on Friday on a warrant issued for his apprehension by the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK), the Croatian Interior Ministry reported.
"We can confirm that General Mladen Kruljac has been arrested and a crime investigation is under way," the ministry's spokeswoman Aleksandra Ljuba said this morning.
She declined to say the reasons for the general's apprehension, adding that the case file is within the remit of the USKOK.
According to currently available information, Kruljac was captured in Osijek on suspicion of his involvement in murky dealings with construction plots.
