One hundred Croatian soldiers have been assigned to assist with flood protection measures in Nemetin near the eastern town of Osijek following a request by the State Protection and Rescue Directorate and at the order of Defence Minister Ante Kotromanovic.
Measures are being taken in expectation of a flood wave on the Danube river heading toward Croatia after passing through most of central Europe.
In another eastern Croatian town, Vukovar, town authorities have said that they are ready for the flood wave and confirmed that they have prepared 25,000 sand bags along the river banks.
"The water level on the Danube in Austria and Slovakia has recorded and all-time high and we are ready for what is to come", a news conference heard.
Vukovar has announced regular flood protection measures and the wave is expected to pass through the town on Monday.
