Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic in Zagreb on Thursday met with Irish President Michael Higgins to talk about the continuation of political cooperation following Croatia's European Union entry and possibilities that will be created with Croatia's EU membership, the Croatian government said in a press release.
"The talks focused on deepening cooperation in the economy, science and education," the statement said.
Higgins, whose country is currently chairing the European Union, recalled that the Irish government recently adopted a decision on opening its labour market to Croatian workers.
Commenting on a lengthy and difficult process of Croatia's EU membership negotiations, Higgins also mentioned the translation of the European Union acquis communautaire which Croatia made available to its neighbours and thus facilitated their EU path.
Underlining that Ireland's story was an inspiration to Croatia, PM Milanovic thanked Higgins on his country's support during Ireland's EU presidency.
