The Croatian Employers Association (HUP) on Thursday said that it was partly satisfied with the government's proposals about the draft of the new penal code which classifies the nonpayment of salaries with unjustified reasons as a crime.
HUP said that given that a part of employers' suggestions were accepted by the government, the association would remain active in the the Economic and Social Council (GSV).
Earlier in the day, HUP threatened to leave the GSV as it saw no reason to prosecute employers for nonpayment of salaries given that even during the economic crisis, the number of those who failed to pay their employees on time did not grow.
HUP said that employers could not agree with some of the provisions in the draft, such as a prison sentence in the event of outstanding contributions for one month, which was why the association would insist on additional amendments in the procedure of the adoption of the new penal code.
