General Mladen Markac, recently acquitted by the Hague war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia together with General Ante Gotovina, said in Djakovo on Saturday there was no hatred or desire for revenge in his heart.
He was asked by the press to comment on some war veterans' claims about the absence of a harsher rhetoric on his and Gotovina's part following the ruling, Markac said there was no hatred or desire for revenge in his heart and that those who wanted to reinforce hatred and revenge could not expect a better future.
Markac reiterated that with the acquittal handed down by the Appeals Chamber, the Hague tribunal clearly confirmed that Croatia had led a defensive liberation war.
He also said he had no political ambitions, that he would do humanitarian work and was proud of the Croatian police.
