Hungary should lobby for the European Union to keep the admission of Western Balkan countries on its agenda, Foreign State Secretary Zsolt Nemeth told a parliamentary committee in Budapest on Tuesday.
It is a big challenge for Hungary to prove that the Western Balkans is no longer a source of permanent difficulties and that it should have a place in the EU, Nemeth was quoted by Hungarian news agency MTI as saying at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Ethnic Issues Committee.
He added that Hungarian investors had excellent opportunities to get involved in development projects in the region.
Hungary, as EU president during the first half of 2011, will therefore focus on promoting the integration of these countries into the EU, Nemeth said.
