INA succeeded in securing additional gas supplies from abroad on Tuesday afternoon after it had to reduce natural gas production and consequently supply to big industrial consumers because of technical difficulties on its gas platforms in the northern Adriatic caused by extremely cold weather in the country.
The leading Croatian oil and gas company reported this afternoon that additional supplies were being imported from Hungarian sources and that the regular provision of gas to the HEP power company, the Rijeka oil refinery and the Petrokemija artificial fertiliser manufacturer would resume on Wednesday afternoon.
The delivery of gas to those clients was scaled down in order to ensure uninterrupted supply to preferred clients such as households, hospitals, schools, kindergartens and other public institutions, INA said.
Natural gas production at INA gas platforms in the northern Adriatic was cut from 3.3 million cubic metres per day to 1.3 million cubic metres per day.
The extremely cold weather on Monday resulted in a record high daily gas consumption of 16.5 million cubic metres.
Croatia's annual gas consumption is some three billion cubic metres, and 65 percent of the demand is covered by production in the country and the remainder of 35 percent by imports.
