Irish President Michael Higgins and his wife Sabina briefly visited the northern Adriatic city of Pula on Friday afternoon, where they were received by city and county officials and saw the sights.
Higgins and his wife also stopped at the Uliks cafe, which has a statue of Irish author James Joyce, who spent part of his life in Pula as an English teacher. Higgins recalled that he led an Irish delegation when the statue was placed outside the cafe.
After Pula, the Irish president and his wife went to the nearby Brijuni Isles as part of Higgins's official visit to Croatian President Ivo Josipovic.
