The Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Gordan Jandrokovic, said on Monday afternoon he was in close contact with the German police after the Croatian Embassy in Berlin received a package containing a bomb and a threatening letter earlier in the day.

"I have no information at the moment as to who is behind this insane act," Jandrokovic told Croatian Radio.

Jandrokovic said he had just received a call from his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle, who expressed his consternation at what had happened and said that the German authorities were guaranteeing security to the Croatian Embassy and to Croatian President, who is scheduled to visit Germany this week, and were investigating the case.

Josipovic travels to Germany on Wednesday for a three-day official visit during which he is due to meet with senior German officials to discuss Croatia's European Union accession process, economic relations between the two countries and the situation in southeastern Europe.

The President's Office said in a statement that preparations for the visit were going according to plan and that the visit would not be cancelled because of the incident at the Croatian Embassy in Berlin.
