Former president of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and former prime minister Jadranka Kosor on Monday refuted the accusations by her predecessor Ivo Sanader that it was she who ordered the state prosecution to raise the indictment against him for the Fimi Media case. Kosor claims that while she was the prime minister she did not order anyone's persecution and her only omission was that she did not put a stop to certain processes.

Kosor, whom Sanader delegated to take over the party and prime minister's office when he left the political scene in 2009, said that she could understand Sanader because he was currently in a difficult personal situation.

Sanader, who has in the meantime been accused in a series of corruption cases on Monday said at Zagreb County Court that Kosor had not only ordered state prosecutor Mladen Bajic to issue an indictment against him in the Fimi Media case but that she also sent government and party officials to testify against him.

Kosor claims that she advocated a rule of law state where every institution is independent and functions independently of political structures. "If we persist on this, I believe that one day it will truly be better in Croatia", she said.
