Kostelic third in Kitzbuehel slalom, first in World Cup ranking

Croatia's best male Alpine skier Ivica Kostelic was third in Sunday's World Cup slalom race in Kitzbuehel, Ausrtria, clocking in at 1:39.97, 78 hundredths of a second behind Italian Cristian Deville, who had a time of 1:39.19.

Austrian Mario Matt, who was first in the first leg of the competition, finished second with a time of 1:39.91.

Kostelic's third place in today's slalom has earned him 60 points, taking him to the leading position in the overall World Cup rankings with 755 points. Hirscher follows with 725 points.

In the slalom rankings Kostelic has kept the top position with 545 points, with Deville following with 370 points and Hirscher with 360 points.

The result of today's slalom will be added to the result of Saturday's downhill for the combined event, which will bring Kostelic an additional 100 points and increase his advantage in the overall ranking.
