With a a 4-1 win over the EBEL League leaders KAC Klagenfurt, Zagreb’s Medvescak has secured a spot in the league playoffs
Following three consecutive wins, Medvescak has secured a spot in the playoffs with just one game left in the regular season. The third win came against league leaders KAC, whom the Bears dropped 1-0, 3-0 and 0-1. Help also came from the Graz 99ers who beat Slovenia’s Jesenice - the Bear’s chief competitors for the last playoff spot.
Medvescak took advantage of Klagenfurt’s top spot and took a four-goal lead after two periods of play with goals from Frank Banham, Don MacLean, Dominik Kanaet and John Hecimovic. KAC’s consolation goal was scored by Manuel Geier at the 50:52 mark.
According to the current standings, Medvescak will face KAC in the quarterfinals, but the Bears still have the chance to overcome seventh-placed Olimpija if they beat SAPA on Friday and the Slovenes lose to KAC.
The playoffs start on Sunday.
