First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Radimir Cacic on Tuesday evening held talks with executives of the Russian state-owned oil company Zarubezhneft who informed him of the activities and business intentions of the Russian company in Croatia, the Croatian Economy Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Cacic expressed satisfaction with the interest of big companies in investing in Croatia's energy system and conviction the two countries would develop cooperation, the statement said.
The talks also focused on the issue of environmental pollution during the production of fuels in the Bosanski Brod Refinery, owned by Zarubezhneft.
The Russian compony's representatives company informed Cacic they had some accidents leading to increase in air pollution, adding however they had invested in the modernisation of the refinery and raised the level of fuels to Europe 5 quality. The Russian company also said that the production technology was in accordance with European standards.
Zarubezhneft Director-General Nikolai G. Brunich told at a news conference in Zagreb yesterday that Zarubezhneft was interested in exploration work in Croatia, in investments into the Croatian oil pipeline operator JANAF and in the construction of a products pipeline running from Slavonski Brod via Zagreb to Omisalj, with the three projects amounting to more than one billion euros.
