The Labour Ministry said on Tuesday there were no legal grounds to enter the Croatian Trade Union of the Unemployed (SNH) into the register of associations which the ministry keeps under the Labour Act and which includes unions, employers associations and their higher associations.

The ministry was commenting on its refusal to enter the SNH into the register, of which the union informed the press earlier today.

The ministry said, among other things, that the Croatian Constitution stipulates that only employed persons are entitled to form unions, and that the SNH did not meet the requirements for entry into the register of associations because its members would be unemployed persons and students.

The ministry recalled that the Pensioners Union and the Farmers Union are registered as civil society organisations with the Administration Ministry.
