Real Madrid have finally signed Luka Modric from Tottenham Hotspur to close a summer-long transfer saga, with the Croatian playmaker agreeing to a five-year deal with the Spanish champions.
Modric was in Madrid on Monday for a medical and to sign the deal, which comes at a reported cost of 35 million euros to Madrid, plus a possible seven million in add-ons, for Modric, who joined Spurs from Dinamo Zagreb.
"Luka has been a terrific player for us, whilst we preferred not to part with him, we are pleased that it is to Real Madrid," Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said.
The 26-year-old Modric made 160 appearances for the north London club, scoring 17 goals, since joining in 2008 from Dinamo for a fee of 21 million euros.
Modric has scored eight goals from 57 appearances with the national team.
Modric is the fourth Croat to paly for Real, after Robert Prosinecki, Davor Suker and Robert Jarni.
