Corruption accusations against the CEO of the Hungarian oil and gas company MOL, Zsolt Hernadi, are unfounded, MOL told MTI news agency after Croatian officials made another request for Hernadi's extradition.

MTI cited Croatia's anti-corruption authority USKOK as saying on its website that the country's European Union accession on July 1 had established conditions that would ensure Hernadi would be present at hearings related to a bribery case that landed Croatia's former prime minister Ivo Sanader a ten-year prison sentence.

MOL told MTI that it maintains its position that the accusations are unfounded - as confirmed by international legal experts - and the company would continue to cooperate with all authorities in the matter.

MTI recalls that last November, a Croatian court sentenced Sanader on corruption charges involving the alleged payment of a bribe in millions of euros to give MOL management rights in the Croatian oil company INA.

MOL's stake in INA is just short of a majority. The other big shareholder in the company is the Croatian state, MTI says.
