The National Security Council will convene on May 30, by which time relevant bodies will prepare all the necessary materials, President's Office said on Sunday.

President Ivo Josipovic yesterday said he would request a meeting of the National Security Council, following a press conference by former Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec, while PM Jadranka Kosor today sent Josipovic a proposed agenda for the meeting.

"I suggest we discuss a very important subject and that is protection of the institutions of the state, so we all can do our work without hindrance, as well as protection of those who lead the fight against corruption and crime, and protection of all institutions against any pressure from anyone," Kosor told reporters outside the Cabinet office after meeting Interior Minister Tomislav Karamarko.

Kosor added the meeting should be held "immediately, today or tomorrow morning" considering Josipovic's scheduled obligations. Next week, Josipovic will officially visit Finland and Estonia.

It was agreed to hold the session on May 30, Josipovic's office said.

On Friday, Polancec said Police Director Oliver Grbic warned him in September 2009 that a series of anonymous police reports had been filed against politicians of the ruling HDZ party and that the HDZ leadership should respond by filing police reports against opposition leaders.

Grbic yesterday dismissed Polancec's allegations, describing them as an attempt to destabilise the police, their director and the Interior Ministry.
