There has been no progress in negotiations over a new collective agreement for workers in the health sector and after hours of negotiation the meeting ended without any concrete results.

Talks with two of three health unions are expected to continue next week when the health ministry is expected to make its recommendation.

As the union leaders of the two unions told reporters after the meeting, concrete talks had not begun yet as the ministry had not presented any new proposal but instead presented two preceding agreements which were short-term.

Unions presented a proposal which is very similar to agreements before these two but they were not discussed, union representatives said.

President of the Independent Unions in Health and Social Welfare Spomenka Avbersek accused the other two unions of ignoring the interests of her union which consists of very diverse jobs.

Union leader Ivica Babic added that the talks today did not even accept a protocol by which the negotiations should be completed by August 31 and that the two unions were prepared to strike and take other industrial action if a collective agreement was not signed.
