Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor has said that "if Croatia joins the EU and Serbia is left behind, all hell will break loose," according to a US diplomatic dispatch released by the whistleblower website WikiLeaks. The dispatch was carried by media in Belgrade on Monday.
Pahor made the statement during a visit by US Senators to Slovenia and the dispatch was sent in late February 2010.
According to the Serbian media, Slovenian Foreign Minister Samuel Zbogar told the US Senators that the Serbian government was concerned that momentum might be lost for Serbia's further integration into Euro-Atlantic structures if a new government was to come to power in Belgrade.
Zbogar described the government of Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic as "forward looking," but noted that it was questionable how much longer it could hold on to power, the US diplomatic dispatch said.
