Interior Ministry spokesman Krunoslav Borovec said on Thursday night that six people were brought in for questioning as part of Operation Shock 3, adding that he could not reveal their names and that it was too early to say if they would become suspects.
There is as yet no confirmation of media allegations that Nikica Jelavic and Zoran Propuz will be brought in for questioning or that police are looking for almost everyone involved in a high-profile late 1990s criminal organisation case.
Four people were arrested as part of Shock 3 on Wednesday on suspicion of the 2008 attempted murders of journalist Dusan Miljus and entrepreneur Josip Galinac.
The media have linked the people brought in for questioning with an arrest in Rijeka earlier on Thursday for the kidnapping of two Macedonians and one Croatian, speculating that the Zagreb criminal underworld has been intending to reinforce its ties with the Bulgarian mafia.
