A man who was injured in an explosion in west Zagreb shortly after midnight is not treated as a suspect, but he was questioned by the police as a witness who happened to be on the site of the blast, police spokeswoman Jelena Bikic told a press conference on Friday afternoon.
"We don't have a suspect yet, which means that we haven't solved the case," Bikic said, adding that all the available police forces were intensively working on the case as well as on an explosion that damaged the railway tracks in the same part of the city two days ago.
The spokeswoman rejected media speculations that the 53-year-old man who suffered minor injuries in last night's blast could be considered responsible for both incidents.
Asked by reporters whether the man's home had been searched, Bikic said that the police were taking all the necessary investigative measures and that a possible search of someone's house did not mean that the owner of the house was automatically a suspect.
She said she could not give any more information in the interest of the investigation.
The police dismissed media speculations that the two cases were acts of terrorism.
The National Protection and Rescue Directorate said that at 0060 hours on Friday it had received a tip from a man about a planted explosive device in Stenjevec and immediately after that a detonation went off in that part of the city. After that a woman called the directorate to say that one man had been injured in the blast.
