Retired Bosnian Army general Jovan Divjak was arrested at Vienna airport on Thursday, Sarajevo electronic media reported.
The ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Vienna, Haris Hrle, confirmed that Divjak was arrested, and it is assumed that the retired general is yet another victim of arrest warrants issued by the Serbian judiciary.
During the war, Divjak was a deputy commander of the Bosnian Army Main Staff.
The Serbian Prosecutor's Office suspects Divjak of killing and injuring several members of the former Yugoslav People's Army. The war time member of the Bosnian presidency, Ejup Ganic, was arrested last year in London, at the request of Serbia, for the same case but was later released from prison.
The London court refused to extradite Ganic to Serbia saying there was not enough evidence to prove that Ganic was involved in war crimes.
Ambassador Hrle, told Sarajevo television that the embassy will assist Divjak in every possible way.
Divjak will be heard by an Austrian investigating judge on Friday.
A protest was held outside the Austrian Embassy in Sarajevo were in the night between Thursday and Friday. The protest, organised on Facebook, gathered some 200 people who asked that Divjak be immediately released. Unless Divjak is freed, new protest rallies will be held on Saturday.
