Social Democratic Party (SDP) MPs on Monday refuted speculations that the Croatian People's Party (HNS) opposition to the proposed legislation on imposing a real estate tax has pushed the governing coalition into a crisis.

Ahead of an SDP parliamentarian caucus's meeting, the caucus head Igor Dragovan told reporters that the club of the SDP MPs had gathered today to discuss items on the agenda of the parliament, including a draft budget for 2013.

Asked by reporters whether the coalition was undermined with the HNS criticism of the proposed real estate tax legislation, Dragovan answered negatively.

Asked whether the SDP would talk with partners in the ruling coalition about the real estate bill, the SDP official said that his party communicated with its partners on a daily basis.

"We talk, we will harmonise all the versions (of the law), nothing is problematic," Dragovan said.

In response to the claims from the HNS that the controversial bill had not been discussed, Dragovan replied that the SDP talked with its partners every day and that he believed that there would be no problems.

"As for the bill, it is up for public discussion. There is enough time to establish what is good and what not," the SDP parliamentarian said.

Asked why the HNS reacted in such a frantic manner and whether such a reaction was prompted by the HNS president Radimir Cacic after he had to step down from all government positions following his conviction by a Hungarian court over a fatal motorway accident, Dragovan said he could not know why the HNS had reacted in such manner.

"That is something that you should ask the HNS," Dragovan said adding that he preferred talks.

Pedja Grbin, Arsen Bauk and other SDP officials today reiterated that the ruling coalition was not shaken.
