Two Italian nationals were killed in an accident on Tuesday morning when their boat clashed with an engine yacht near the islet of Maslinovik two nautical miles off Primosten, the central Dalmatian coast.
At about 14 hrs Tuesday, after a four-hour search, the police found the bodies of an Italian man and an Italian woman off Primosten. They fell into the sea when their boat collided with the yacht which was sailed by Croatian businessman Tomo Horvatincic.
The Croatian minister of the sea, transport and infrastructure has set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the causes of the fatal maritime accident.
Businessman Horvatincic issued a statement confirming that his involvement in the accident.
Expressing his regret at the fatal accident and deep shock, Horvatincic said that the navigation system in his vessel had failed which was why he could not steer the ship in the normal manner and could not avoid the approaching vessel.
He said that after he had realised that the navigation system was not functioning, he tried to warn persons on the approaching vessel that he had no control over his ship, but this also did not help them to avoid the tragic accident.
