A EUR 10,000 fine imposed on Croatian Football Federation president Vlatko Markovic over a disparaging statement about homosexuals has been confirmed, the Slovenian news agency STA said on Monday.
UEFA turned down Markovic's appeal against the sentence handed down on May 24. He was fined for saying in an interview in late 2010 that "no homosexual will play in the Croatian national team as long as I am at the helm of the Federation, because football is played by healthy people."
UEFA's Appeals Body found that Markovic's statement was inappropriate, rejecting his appeal.
