Preparations are under way for the evacuation of 155 Croatian citizens, workers of Crosco, Geofizika and Montmontaza companies, out of Libya, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mario Dragun said on Thursday.
"A Trade Air plane has left for Tripoli and is ready to transfer our citizens," Dragun said, adding that the plane was ready to fly to other parts of Libya to collect Croatian workers if it received necessary permission from the Libyan authorities.
"We also expect that all 28 Montmontaza workers will board a ship in the port of Benghazi today," the spokesman said. He stressed "very good cooperation with companies whose employees are working in Libya."
So far, 146 Croatian citizens have been evacuated from Libya, which has been swept by a wave of popular unrest against the rule of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. Over 1,000 protesters are estimated to have been killed since the outbreak of the revolt on February 15.
