The 86th Zagreb International Autumn Fair began on Wednesday, featuring some 500 exhibitors from 29 countries, with China as this year's partner country.
Events will focus on energetics, construction, fashion, consumer goods, music, multimedia, dance, and include for the first time Mystic, a fair of alternative and healthy lifestyles and border areas of science.
Opening the fair, the Croatian President Ivo Josipovic's envoy, Boris Cota, said that after a 1.5 percent downturn this year, the Croatian economy would probably recovery mildly in early 2011.
Speaking about unfavourable economic trends in 2010, such as a budgetary deficit accounting for 4.2 percent of Gross Domestic Product and an increase of the public debt to 50 percent of GDP and of the country's external debt to 100 percent of GDP, Cota called for pursuing an economic policy that can boost the economy's competitiveness.
It is good that the government has launched its Economic Recovery Programme, which must be implemented, the president's economic advisor said.
Chinese Ambassador Shen Zhifei spoke about the long history of participation of Chinese exhibitors in the Zagreb International Autumn Fair.
The diplomat said that this was the second time for China to be the partner-country at the event.
China will have 32 exhibitors at the 86th edition of the Zagreb trade fair.
