A majestic display by Sammir guided Dinamo to a 4-1 win over Swedish side Malmo in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifier on Wednesday evening.
Three second-half goals led Dinamo past Malmo side after the teams had traded scores in the first half. Sammir netted twice for the home side, including a second half penalty to put Dinamo up 3-1, and Ante Rukavina and Fatos Beciraj completed the scoring. Malmo's Agon Mehmeti got an away goal, but it's probably not going to be enough.
Looking the make the most of their home advantage, Dinamo had to wait just four minutes before they took the lead through Sammir.
A neat pass by Ante Rukavina found Jerko Leko racing down the right, and while his cross was deflected away, it fell kindly to Sammir who scored easily.
Dinamo continued to plough forward, but it was the visitors who equalised against the run of play, after Agon Mehmeti raced onto Markus Halsti's slide-rule pass and cut inside Luis Ibanez, before beating Ivan Kelava at his near post.
Eleven minutes into the second period, Ibanez advanced from his defensive position to deliver a perfect cross for Rukavina to touch home at the near post.
Just four minutes later, Sammir added another for the Croatian outfit, after he was felled in the box by Malmo goalkeeper Dusan Melicharek.
And six minutes from the end, Dinamo capped off a sizeable advantage for next Tuesday's return leg when Sammir played in substitute Fatos Beciraj, who sealed a 4-1 win for the home side.
It is 12 years since Dinamo last graced the UEFA Champions League group stage but after Wednesday evening the home side has also reasons to hope to put that right against a Malmo side competing in Europe for the first time since 2005/06.
