Acting Parliament Speaker Josip Leko said in Varazdin on Sunday he expected new investments to be launched as announced, jobs to be created and citizens to live better next year.
He said every government should be controlled and that he expected the opposition, apart from criticising, to be constructive as well, but that he had not seen that yet.
"I think it makes sense to expect the government to work in two directions, with stopgap measures to maintain the living standards, but also to make rough moves to turn Croatia's direction around because we can no longer live on others' money and others' accumulation, and it would be unreasonable to continue along the same lines, the same paths and the same methodology."
Leko visited the Spancirfest festival, saying Croatia could offer a lot in culture "and raise its tourism to a level we didn't know we had." He voiced hope that with Croatia's accession to the European Union next year, Spancirfest "will be richer, better and more interesting, both for Europe and all parts of Croatia."
