The national council for supervising the anti-corruption strategy implementation on Tuesday unanimously adopted an integrated report of the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor (DORH) and the anti-corruption investigative office (USKOK) on the implementation of the strategy in the first eight months of 2012.

The council called for stepping up efforts to counter corruption at the local level.

Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic told the council that apart from guilty verdicts and prison sentences, the bodies tasked with containing corruption also decided to take other measures such as confiscation of unlawfully acquired property.

"In the first eight months this year, we confiscated assets worth HRK 5 million as a measure against corruption crimes, an additional HRK 15 million of property was confiscated in the cases of organised crime, and HRK 70 million of property was frozen as part of the proceedings against suspects in corruption cases," Bajic said.
