Attorney Damir Alagic said on Saturday that his client, Croatian tycoon Miroslav Kutle, had dual Croatian-Bosnian citizenship and that he was not on the run but in Bosnia and Herzegovina, although the Croatian Interior Ministry via Interpol issued a warrant for him after he was convicted in Croatia to two years and eight months in prison for malfeasance.
Speaking for the Bosnian Federation's FTV television station, Alagic said Kutle was not on the run, that he had moved to Bosnia for health and business reasons before the warrant was issued, and that he had regularly notified the Bosnian State Court and Justice Ministry as well as the federal police about his return and residence in Bosnia.
Alagic said Kutle's attorneys in Croatia had notified the Zagreb County Court about the reasons for his failure to attend hearings.
Alagic said that based on a Bosnian-Croatian agreement, he felt that his client would not have to serve the prison sentence "because the defence has its trump cards with which it will contest the verdict from Croatia".
Kutle was convicted for financial wrongdoing in a case involving the Gradski Podrum company.
Yesterday, Interpol issued a red notice for his arrest.
