A cultural programme that Austria is preparing to welcome Croatia to the European Union was presented on Tuesday in the Austrian Cultural Forum in Zagreb.

The programme consists of 12 events to occur from early May to the end of September at several locations around Croatia and will endeavour to entertain various audiences.

Austria and Croatia have a long common historical experience. Austria sent humanitarian aid to Croatia in the early nineties and then came to Croatia's assistance during its path to the European Union cooperating on several joint projects and now we sincerely wish to congratulate Croatia on it returning to where it always belonged, Austria's Ambassador to Croatia Andrea Ikic-Boehm said.

The organisers in particular highlighted an exhibition of photographs of the Brijuni Islands and an installation by Hans Kupelwieser, a descendant of Viennese industrialist Paul Kupelwieser, who bought the islands in 1893 with the intention to create an exclusive tourist centre.

Chairman of the parliamentary Committee for European Integration Daniel Mondekar thanked the Austrian Ambassador and confirmed the mutual cooperation that has existed for over five centuries of a common history and now the two countries are building a common future.
