Damir Bajs and Branko Hrg are candidates for the new president of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS), Hina learnt from the HSS after the candidacy process, which started 12 December 2011, ended on Monday.
The HSS will hold an election convention in Zagreb on 28 January when 1,026 delegates will decide who will replace Josip Friscic at the helm of the HSS and run the party over the next four years.
Friscic announced he would not run for party president after the December 4 parliamentary elections at which the party won only one seat in parliament, five seats fewer than in the last parliament.
After the election, Friscic froze his mandate as a member of Parliament and was replaced by Damir Bajs who is the only HSS deputy in the new parliament.
Friscic was elected HSS president in December 2005.
