Croatian Television reporter Branka Slavica, who has been the national broadcaster's correspondent in the United States for six years, was named Journalist of the Year 2010, for her reporting from the earthquake-hit Haiti.
The other two reporters nominated for the title, which is traditionally awarded on World Press Freedom Day, May 3, were Branimir Pofuk of Jutarnji List daily and freelance reporter Ivica Rados.
Drazen Vukov-Colic was honoured with the Otokar Kersovani life achievement award.
Croatian Journalists Association (HND) president Zdenko Duka said few were satisfied with the freedom of the media in Croatia. He noted that crucial terms in journalism were the trust of the public and consistency.
Duka called on citizens to join in a protest meeting the HND and the national journalists' union SNH would hold later in the afternoon on World Press Freedom Day to point to main problems regarding journalism and the position of journalists in Croatia.
