Charges have been pressed against 23 persons - customs and police officers and one state inspector - on suspicion of having committed over a hundred corruption-related crimes, the Croatian Interior Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Police National Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (PNUSKOK), in cooperation with several police departments and USKOK, has carried out an investigation into several people and established that there are grounds for suspicion that 23 persons (customs and police officers and one state inspector) committed over a hundred corruption-related crimes, according to the ministry's statement signed by spokesman Krunoslav Borovec.
There are grounds for suspicion that in the period from 10 March 2010 until their arrest, they made it possible for various people to import commodities into Croatia. The arrested state inspector allegedly took bribes in exchange for not taking action.
The crimes were mostly committed in Krapina-Zagorje County and some were committed in Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Zagreb counties.
