Floods have hit northern and central Croatia. The water levels of the Sava and Kupa rivers have been rising considerably and the strongest water wave is expected on Wednesday afternoon.

Croatia's National Protection and Rescue Directorate issued flood alerts for areas along Bednja and Plitvica rivers in the northern county of Varazdin, although water levels have been subsiding in that area.

The Sisak area is currently under the greatest threat of flooding with the water level of the Sava river exceeding 760 cm.

Heavy rain caused damage to railway infrastructure and railway traffic disruption between Kruzevci and Lepavine on the Dugo Selo-Botovo railway tracks and between Novi Marof and Turcin on the Bedokovcina-Cakovec railway tracks. Hrvatske zeljeznice railways reported.

As a result of continuously inclement weather conditions, landslides were reported in a number of areas, including Zagreb.
