Croatian households are still not hoping for a better life -- about 44% say that their present financial situation is worse than last year, more than a third expect the situation to be even worse next year, while nearly a half say that they are barely making ends meet, according to a survey conducted by GfK agency this month.

As for the economic situation in Croatia in the next 12 months, 62% of households believe that it will be worse (32% expect it to be much worse and 30% slightly worse), 22% think it will stay the same, while 12% hope it will be a little better.

Only 7% of households said they were slightly better off than they had been a year ago; 47% think their situation remained the same, while 44% said they were worse off than last year.

Over the next year about 11% of households hope to be at least slightly better off, 49% estimate their financial situation will remain roughly the same, while 36% expect to be worse off.

Nearly all respondents said they expected further price rises within the next 12 months, with 45% saying they expected considerable increases in prices and as many moderate increases.
